Working to Restore Michigan's Workforce
Jack Lessenberry has an interview with Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell who is among those who are asking what displaced tool and die and other manufacturing workers do when their skills suddenly become obsolete. Heartwell says that from 2001-2005 median household incomes in the Grand Rapids area fell by over 9.1%, meaning that many losing high-paying jobs are forced to take lower paying jobs. He's advocating that in addition to seeking to develop new industries, we also seek to redevelop our workforce.
