Shanty Creek soon will belong to a Missouri oil company whose owner has ties to other resorts, including Colorado's Copper Mountain ski area.
St. Louis-based Apex Oil agreed to purchase all of Comerica Bank’s interest in Shanty Creek, said Apex executive vice president Doug Hommert.

Hommert said Trinidad and other Apex subsidiaries own a number of private golf courses, but declined to divulge specifics. Nor did he reveal details about the pending sale or immediate plans Apex has for Shanty Creek, the sprawling complex that includes three residential villages, four golf courses and two ski areas.

"We've got some very experienced people with us. We intend to sometime soon start establishing that resort as a premier resort in northern Michigan" said Hommert.
