She says Miller is caught in the middle of an enduring tug-of-war between skiing's free-spirited heritage, and the buttoned-down, conservative attitudes of the Olympics.

"Think about Ishpeming, Michigan, and the beginning of skiing in America ... look at the whole premise," said Street, calling from her hometown in Ketchum, Idaho.
