Michigan Prep Girls Season Likely to Change
The Detroit Free Press reports that Federal courts have ruled that Michigan's prep athletics seasons discriminate against girls in some sports. Michigan is the only state to play girls volleyball in the winter, and one of two to play girls basketball outside of winter. The Michigan High School Athletic Association argues the current schedule is not discriminatory and say altering the seasons could lead to fewer girls playing sports and could also pose scheduling problems for schools.

Every Hundred Days Project - January 18, 2005
Every 100 days, the staff of Leelanau.com (the folks behind Absolute Michigan) dedicates an entire day to the production of a web site for a deserving nonprofit or community organization. Tomorrow (Tuesday, January 18 2005) a new web site for the Manitou Music Festival will be created and you are invited to follow along through the Absolute Michigan Blog.

MLive.com & Booth Newspapers report that 9% of Michigan teachers must prove by the end of next school year that they are highly qualified to teach their core academic subjects under the Federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
